Jettison Red placed in the top 14 regional finalists of the Opportunity Rocks new music contest. They performed in Nashville for the event, but of course lost out to a hometown band . They also performed this summer at Midpoint Music Festival in Cincinnati, Midwest Music Summit in Indianapolis, Nashville Music Festival and Cincinnati Pop Festival and the local WDET (NPR) fall fundraiser. They are currently seeking a new bassist who we will reveal his name after he has been in the band at least six months!

Forge is returning into the Tempermill studios to re-record their upcoming album to be released in early 2003. They are still searching for the right drummer. Meanwhile, their old drummer, Greg Mastin, sits in on the shows and recording sessions. Forge is also receiving airplay in Costa Rica as part of the Costa Rica radio project.

Roshambo is the new project from Twitch bassist Tim Taebel and drummer Scott Lemansky. A recent performance at 313.jac heard one remark "Twitch-Lite" look for them to return to Jacoby's on Nov. 22.

Downtown Brown's CD "Moist & Ridiculous" is making noise around town and country. A review in Real Detroit stated "engrossing as a true rock and roll album can get, you'll be left with but one dominant impression: thank fucking God -a band who actually gets it. This one gets the double goat salute! 4.5". 89X's "Homeboy" show also featured a track.

Red September's "Wake Up Call" is an international hit! The CD has been featured on every station in Costa Rica thanks to Bruce Callow and his Costa Rica Radio Project. The South American stations have it in regular rotation and it is a favorite among the DJs there. Japan's "Yellow Beat" music show also gave "Graffiti" a spin on their syndicated show. Australia's "Groove Radio" and the UK's soundsxp e-magazine gave it a great review among others. Look for a review in the December issue of Sci-Fi magazine.

Look for the show of the month on Saturday, Nov. 16th at Jacoby's: Downtown Brown and Bullcock together again with special guests from Toledo. The All-Star Has-Beens, featuring guitarist Ken Haas formerly of the Culture Bandits. Meanwhile in ex-bandit updates bassist Jason Bowes unveiled his new band "The Off Ramps" with Jeremy Porter. He also pulls bass duty for Brooklawn. Ex-guitarist Derek Cook also has a new metal band called Clear.

NO ALTERNATIVE has hooked up a deal with MTV to have tracks from their album, "Now Or Never", featured on MTV shows like Road Rules and The Real World.

Totally Different Head vocalist, La recently auditioned for the TV show "American Idol"

Static Records' Fearless Leader Sue will be appearing on the "Money or Lack of the Same" panel at the DIY Convention as part of CMJ New Music Marathon. Red September's Peter Schorn will also be on the panel along with old pal Jack Rabid, editor of the Big Takeover-the only music magazine that matters.

Go see Peelander-Z at the Continental 1am 10/31!

Forge will be releasing a brand new CD this fall. The album is being
recorded at Back Woods Studios (Rochester Hills, MI). Here are some of the track titles are: "One Swift Motion", "Mastermind", "The Fold", "Defenseless" and
"Stickman". A November release date is being planned. More info will be posted shortly.

The Downtown Brown CD Release party was off the hook!!! We're not totally sure what all happened (haven't read the police report yet), but we do know that after rocking a couple hundred fans at The Shelter, the after-party at Jacoby's raged on until closing time as most of those fans came over to party hard. (If someone could explain what the phrase, "I'm hung like a tuna can!" means, we'd greatly appreciate it.)

We're sorry to report that Lili's 21, home to the Big 80's Flashback Bash since 1999 suddenly announced that they'll be closing their doors at the end of September. We're looking for an alternate venue for the event, but it's a sad day when a club, that was a home to thousands of up and coming musicians for over 20 years, has to say good-bye. :'(

The newest addition to the Static family is Downtown Brown. These punk-funk warriors will be having their CD release party for "Moist & Ridiculous" on Sat. Aug. 31 at The Shelter in Detroit. (Under St. Andrew's Hall.) Full track listing info and band bios are coming soon.

BULLCOCK (at left) has made a massive splash in their first few shows with their tight, "rawk 'n roll", extravaganzas, boozy songs and the sultry stylings of co-vocalist Nina Marie. With a fistful of soon-to-be-classic songs like "I Think That Stripper Really Likes Me", "Ghetto Mechanic" and "Hog Nuts", they'll be heading into The Woodshed to start cutting tracks in September with Peter Schorn and Tim Pak manning the controls, wondering if that buzzing sound is the equipment or their heads. Peter has also contributed an unrecorded song ("I wrote it for Joan Jett. Her loss.") called "Back To Zero".

Jettison Red just got finished recording some new music at The Loft with
Tim Patalin (Sponge). Look for it soon on their revamped web site.

RED SEPTEMBER is still seeking a versatile bassist with vocals. Shows and recording pending. Email red_september@hotmail.com for further info.

Finally, we've tidied up our Order Form to make it easier to find all your favorite Static music and merchandise. So, start shopping!!!

No Alternative and FORGE overcame a dubious sound system and a basement stage that gave the vibe of being INSIDE a TV dinner to rock the U.S. Beer Co. in Chicago for MOBfest.

Jettison Red also had weird sound by a lazy soundman for their NXNE 2002 show at the OPM Den, but they showcased some new songs and provided a great soundtrack for ogling the smoking-hot Chinese barmaid. (That's what the guys said!) They also played the Comerica TasteFest over the Fourth of July weekend.

Bull Cock has added Terry Bradley, the original drummer for Culture Bandits (1st time around) to their lineup and promises a crazy night with a crowd full of strippers and other hot ladies when they open for new Static roster mates, Downtown Brown. Be there or be elsewhere!

Listen for music from RED SEPTEMBER and FORGE on the Canadian extreme sports/skateboarding TV show "Concrete Wave" this fall. (Red Sept is still seeking a bassist. See two news items down for details.)

This update 7/10/02

After a long search for the right drummer, No Alternative is happy to announce the addition of Tom Tesnow (ex-SGOE) to the lineup. The band will now continue their musical conquests, including an appearance at MOBfest 2K2 on Thursday, June 20 with FORGE at the U.S. Beer Co. in Chicago. (Forge is at 12:00 and No Alt is at 12:30.) For more details on MOBfest 2K2 the music industry conference and festival, check out www.mobfest.com.

Jettison Red also hits the music conference/ festival circuit showcasing at NXNE 2002 in Toronto. They will be performing at the OPM Den on Saturday, June 8 at 11:00. Their first show back in action with new bassist, Shance Carlisle was filmed for "Real Detroit: The TV Show".

Bull Cock is the new project from ex-Immortal Winos of Soul, Chopper and Ross and ex-Spat!/Train's Can't Stop guitarist Bruce Bryson. Joining them are Nina Marie on vocals and drummer, Christophe Zajaz-Denek. Their first show ever will be Saturday, July 20 opening for the infamous Downtown Brown at 313.jac/Jacobys. Their second show ever will be at the annual Viva La Garaga on Sunday, July 21 at the Cadieux Café.

STATIC RECORDS upcoming release schedule includes two special tribute compilations. The first in the two part series, promises to be as eclectic as ever and will feature many local artists covering Detroit's musical history, the second will pay tribute to the city itself. That's the only hint for now, stay tuned for more info.

RED SEPTEMBER are still seeking a bassist. See last news item for details.

RED SEPTEMBER was edged out for a Detroit Music Award by Trash Brats "American Disaster". The Brats have been long-time vets of the Detroit music scene and it's great to see them acknowledge. The Red Sept. guys rushed to congratulate them and said, "Hey, if we had to lose, we're glad it was you guys." (After the show, the band was reportedly seen vandalizing the Bratmobile and stuffing a banana up their tailpipe.)

The also decided to start looking for a new bass player due to the continued scheduling hassles with the current players. If you're a versatile bassist in the Detroit area with strong backing vocal skills, check out their MP3s and contact them thru this site.

Jettison Red has been invited to play the NXNE 2002 conference in Toronto, June 6-8th. Previous Static invitees have been Agent 009 and Skinhorse. The only other Detroit act we see is Outrageous Cherry. Showcase details will be here when we get them.

Speaking of showcases, NO ALTERNATIVE reports that all went well at their Nemo show last month.

RED SEPTEMBER has been receiving more reviews and airplay nationally for their debut CD “Wake Up Call”. Lead guitarist, Peter Schorn received a preliminary endorsement from the guitar manufacturer, Kramer, who gifted him with a new Baretta Infinity Sustainer in appreciation for his years of loyalty to the brand. Their album have been recorded almost entirely with Kramer guitars. (Are we seeing the next Eddie Van Halen or should we lay off the cough syrup?)

Jettison Red has finally found their missing link in new bassist, Shance Carlisle who recently joined the band. Look for them to be back out rocking the town again soon.

Tim Taebel and Scott Lemanski have been keeping busy musically since the demise of Twitch earlier this year. They have been creating soundtrack music for the plays at the Planet Ant Theater and plan to release the collection of works on Planet Ant Records under the name "TWIT". (Makes sense, since they were 2/3rds of Twitch.)

What do you get when you mix a couple of Winos, and a Train that went Spat!? BULLCOCK. (We have no idea ourselves.) It’s a band and will be charging into clubs soon. It so far features Immortal Winos of Soul bassist Russ, guitarist Chopper and Bruce Bryson formerly of Trains Can’t Stop and Spat! Stay tuned for more info.

And finally, FORGE is still searching for the perfect drummer to add to the team.
Please inquire at Forge's web site.

RED SEPTEMBER has been nominated for Best Rock Recording in the 2002 Detroit Music Awards for Wake Up Call!!! This is Red September's SIXTEENTH DMA nomination since 1995 and their first for a recording. After 3-1/2 years of it never seeming to get done, they finally finished it and have garnered this honor. Hopefully, they'll join previous Static victories for records by Forge, Skinhorse and the Iggy Pop tribute. (Peter Schorn HAS won three DMAs for his Executive Production of the Detroit Musicians Alliance compilations, "United We Jam", "Fine Assorted Jams" and "Motor CD", but none for Red Sept.) Good luck, guys! You worked hard for it!

NO ALTERNATIVE has been chosen for NEMO, an annual music industry conference and showcase held in Boston. Now in it's 6th year, NEMO
features showcases from over 200 artists from around the country. If you're in Beantown, they'll be playing "The Front Room at the Paradise" on Saturday, April 13th from 11:50pm-12:30am. For more information, check out www.nemoboston.com

The new Online Order Form is up, allowing you to order the latest Static goodies. So go buy some!!!

RED SEPTEMBER is gathering rave reviews for Wake Up Call and airplay in the Northeast and on WOXY in Cincinatti. If you've seen "Rain Man", then you've heard of them. They're the station that Dustin Hoffman kept repeating their slogan, "97X. BAM!! The future of rock & roll." over and over. They stream on the Web, so give them a listen and hear a really cool station. (Call them up and request a tune too!)

JETTISON RED has reportedly found a new bassist. One day, they'll tell us who he is. (Hopefully, he doesn't have a castrating girlfriend.)

The IMMORTAL WINOS OF SOUL are going on indefinite hiatus for various reasons. Leave some beer on your porch, they'll be by to get it. Make them play first.

We've been so busy lately, we didn't notice that we blasted past 10,000 hits sometime. Thank you very much for your support!!!

This update 2/17/02

An extremely belated Happy New Year to everyone. Hope things are well with you and yours! The theme of this update is "Musical Chairs". Why? Keep reading...

FORGE - After the addition of their new guitarist, John Deary, Forge made the decision to subtract their drummer. As they announced on Jan. 24th, "Last week, we had to fire our drummer, Bob. The reason for this is simple. Bob was not contributing 100% to the band. There were many attempts to address and correct this problem. But after many months, it became clear that we had to let Bob go. Greg Mastin returned to play an important show last month and the guys are currently looking for a replacement. Recording of their follow-up to "Trials" is on hold.

RED SEPTEMBER: Speaking of returning members, Cliff Finch, original bassist has come back to fill-in for some shows due to work conflicts for Frank Greenhalgh. "We can't stop now that we've started gigging again, so we're gonna tag-team it as necessary.", says Peter Schorn. He also reports that he's picking material for the next album. (Which better not come in 2006!)

Their song, "WWW", broke into the Top 100 at Garageband.com and they'd garnered over 50 great reviews when the web site, in serious financial straits, shut down without warning recently.

In keeping with the problems with bassist vein, JETTISON RED had THEIR bassist announce that he was leaving, the week after their triumphant CD release party with Red September, to spend more time with his girlfriend, Yoko. A search for his replacement is ongoing.

Changing gears from bands losing members to bands losing the whole band, TWITCH played their farewell show Jan. 5th at Jacoby’s where they played their complete catalog AND released their final CD, "Long Ride On A Short Bus". It's a terrific CD and we're sad to see them have to stop. We wish Rob Bullock a swift and complete recovery. Hopefully, they'll reconvene for Big 80’s and reunion gigs in the future. Look for a new band to emerge from Scott and Tim soon.
