New!Sorry to be so long in between updates, but when you see how much has happened, we hope you'll understand. Thanks for your support!!

Static Records celebrates its’ 20th release! It’s been 11 years and 20 releases later and we’re still here bringing Detroit’s most eclectic music to the world. The three new titles are the long-awaited CD “Wake Up Call” from Red September, and the debuts from two new Static recruits; Jettison Red “Clear As Day” and No Alternative, “Now or Never”.

RED LETTER DAY was exactly that: The THIRD largest show ever held at 313.jac with about 200 people packed in for roof-raising, encore-demanding sets by Jettison Red and Red September on Nov. 16th. Leading up to the show was an appearance on the "89X Homeboy Show"  where Peter from Red Sept and Chris from Jet Red talked (respectively) about "Wake Up Call" and "Clear As Day" and the release party.

Red Sept was the Detroit News' "Band of the Week" and both bands got terrific write-ups in this C&G Newspapers story called, "Better Off Red". Check them out and see why their CDs are selling around the world. (No kidding - We've received orders from California to Sweden already!)

On Friday December 7, NO ALTERNATIVE will be holding a CD release party for their debut, "Now Or Never" at Jacoby’s. Opening will be Last Place Champs from Wisconsin, Detroit’s  One Hump Chump and Storm Records artists, Caulfield. Doors are at 9 p.m. for this show. CDs will be sold for $10 at the show and are available now thru this website and at independent retailers and Harmony House in Michigan.

Come on out and check out the new Static artists and support the label and the bands by picking up a CD! (You can also hear the bands on the 89x’s Homeboy show with Kelly Brown on Sunday, Nov.11 at 10 p.m.)

BIG 80's FLASHBACK BASH was held Oct. 26th at Lili's and featured great performances from Forge, Red September, Jettison Red, Twitch, Totally Different Head and Downtown Brown. (Once we find where we put them, we'll post everyone's set list.)

FORGE - After an extensive search, Forge announces the addition of their new guitarist, John Deary, to the band. John has been secretly practicing with the band since Sept. and made his debut with them at the Static Big 80’s Party. The band will do a return tour around the Midwest to introduce John to their fans before they head into Tempermill Studio in February to record their third release for Static.

TWITCH -We are sad to report that after 11 years of music, Twitch is on permanent hiatus. (We hate the term breaking up, and the possibility of a reunion or appearance at Big 80’s is not out of the question.) But due to health reasons, the trio has had to put their live performances on hold. Ironically, a new CD from Twitch that was recorded earlier this year will be out in January on Static. Twitch’s farewell show will be Saturday, January 5 at Jacoby’s where they will play the complete Twitch catalog for their fans. We here at Static are sad to see them go, but we will guilt them into getting together for 80’s parties and reunion gigs in the future. Look for a new band to emerge from them by the end of the year.

VIVA LA GARAGA - The live CD of this and last year’s event at the Cadieux Café is for sale for $10 from Bruce Bryson, the show’s promoter. Email him  for a copy and catch the Static bands live performances at the show.

And now for good news and bad news….

This may be both! Join us for Stirling’s ?th Birthday Party on Sat. Dec. 15th at Jacoby’s. He will be reliving his "Rock Star" days with a special performance onstage with The Sights, where they will do ancient covers that are older than the band themselves!. If you haven’t checked out The Sights yet, this is the time too. They are terrific! You can also buy Stirling a shot for his birthday and drink it yourself because he doesn’t drink! It’s the thought that counts….

We are sad to report the Detroit music community lost another one -  Michael Miller, bassist for the legendary local band Goober & The Peas, exited the Earth and left us with fond memories of kicking up hay and having a rockin good time. Goodbye funky cowboy! (they always did clean up the hay afterwards-what a band).

This update 12/6/01

It has certainly been a trying few weeks with the World Trade Center attacks and now the Allied response, but we've got to soldier on through adversity and there's no better was then to CRANK UP SOME GOOD MUSIC! And we're glad to say that we've got THREE great new releases approaching faster than a cruise missile.

Static Records is pleased to announce the addition of No Alternative to the roster. Their 11-song debut release "Now Or Never" is at the pressing plant right now for an October release. More details about this great young band will be found here soon.

In today's, "It's a miracle!!!" announcement, RED SEPTEMBER have FINALLY regained their right to be mentioned on this site by completing "Wake Up Call"!! (We'll wait while you get over the shock. We felt the same way.) It'll be heading to the pressing plant within a couple of days and we're all set for the "RED LETTER DAY" Dual CD Release on Friday, November 16th at Jacoby's.

It's going to be a great party because it'll also celebrate the release of Jettison Red's CD. As a special offer, at the party, you'll be able to buy BOTH the Red September and Jettison Red CDs for $15, a savings of $5 over their separate cost. This way, no one will have to choose one CD over the other and everyone will be able to enjoy both great CDs! (Thanks to Peter for the idea.)

We are extremely pleased to announce the addition of Jettison Red to the Static family. Their debut CD (as yet unnamed) is being mastered for scheduled release in September. It's great power-pop that you're going to love. Stay tuned for more details.

FORGE are heading into Roscoe's Recording with Vinnie Dombrowski (Sponge) this weekend to demo new tracks for their next magnum opus.

Fearless Leader has been tapped to be the Detroit scene reporter for Altarnative.com website and the Detroit Regional Director for Cleveland's Undercurrents 2001.

We also heard from The Leader of The Band We Don't Talk About Anymore and he said that he was reviewing a new master and that it sounded very promising. That's great news, but were aren't gonna mention him/them again until they actual HAND THE MASTER IN!! (It's called "tough love" kids.)

This update 7/12/01

Fearless Leader was featured on Austria Public radio station show called
"Music Cities" talking about Static and the scene here in the "D", She also appeared in an article on independent label websites, "How Labels Feel About
The Web", on versusmedia.com and in an article on Detroit music written by The Impaler in Jam Rag. You go girl!

TOTALLY DIFFERENT HEAD: In this month's "Look Who's Hitched" news, Phil and Laura tied the knot in Florida on June 23rd. A local reception/karaoke throwdown was held at Jacoby's on July 7th. Static family members in attendance included Culture Bandits Eric and Jason (with his new fiancée Carol), Mr. SPAT! Bruce Bryson, Ex-Skinhorse Andre and a guy who's not getting his name printed on this website until he finishes his CD. A great time was had by all and congratulations, kids! (What's with all the marrying going on?)

CULTURE BANDITS are on indefinite hiatus. They are all keeping active playing in different bands. Guitarist-vocalist Ken with Toledo-based Kids from Krypton; guitarist Derek in a new harder-edged band called Clear; bassist Jason is in Brooklawn (and singing "Henry the Eighth" at karaoke parties) and Eric plays drums in The Ruiners (with ex-Moisture guitarist Gary Chechak).

FORGE played at the McCarty Benefit on July 7 at Magic Stick along with
friends The Bomb Pops and Stroker Ace. They also were guests on the Homeboy Show playing new songs. They're currently working with Vinnie from Sponge/Crud/Orbit Suns in the studio and they also had the DEMO for new tune "Mastermind" win the 89X People's Choice FOUR NIGHTS STRAIGHT beating songs by Cake, Ministry, Godhead and Prime STH. Good on ya!!

BAND THAT'S NOT GONNA GET THEIR NAME ON THIS SITE UNTIL THEY COMPLETE THEIR CD: Placed quite well at Garageband with their song "WWW" and received two dozen positive text reviews. (The ultimate winners of the last two rounds only received 10 write-ups each.) The song is also scheduled to appear in bike videos and CD-ROMs. Details as they come in.

In other news, a quick shot of Andre Royster appeared on VH1's "Bands On The Run Casting Special" (July 8th) with his old gig, Jelly's Pierced Tattoo.

For the third straight year, Static Records has been voted Best Local Label at the Detroit Music Awards! It was a real surprise to us because we thought the various delays in the bands delivery of finished records (Deb's baby, Twitch's perfectionism, Red September's..uh...whatever their problem is.) would mean that the torch would pass to another deserving label that actually released something in 2000. But, hundreds of voters spoke and Static turned the hat trick.

Certain that she wouldn't need to make an appearance, Fearless Leader did what she loves most and booked four young punk bands into 313.JAC and worked the show. In her absence, Awards Pre-Show co-host Peter Schorn scrambled to make an impromptu acceptance speech and thanked the voters and saluted all the nominees for working hard to get Detroit music heard.

Due to change in the Awards rules, the threepeat means that Static will be ineligible in 2002 for Best Label, but will return to contention in 2003. We'll be there!

THE IMMORTAL WINOS OF SOUL: Head Wino Kevin Peshkopia married his beloved Shannon at a beautiful ceremony at the Henry Ford Estate in Dearborn, MI on May 5th. The expected mass self-immolation of distraught female admirers fortunately didn't materialize. (THAT would've been a bummer.)

TOTALLY DIFFERENT HEAD: Who they? They are the Artists Formerly Known As Greebo! Deciding to retool the band's image, there was a brainstorming session at 313.JAC and the 57th suggestion was the charm. Who thought up the new moniker? Red September honcho Peter Schorn. Look for new logos soon.

MOISTURE have been working hard following up their Farmclub appearance. Bob Gentry reports that he was at a studio where Sugar Ray singer Mark McGrath was laying vocals on some project. Apparently, Mark was quite lousy and they had to ProTool the track to death. Mark was heard to say, "They don't pay me to sing." We guess so.

FORGE are cutting demos for their new album and are in talks with several producers to helm sessions. They borrowed some amps from Peter of Red September to experiment with new tones and it's made them sound even more rocking!

RED SEPTEMBER: Red Leader Peter Schorn has been lending amps, naming bands, accepting and presenting awards and thus hasn't been finishing "Wake Up Call". (What you say? Someone set us up the bomb. Launch every zig! For great justice!) Come on, it's almost done, DO IT!!!

On the productive side, Red September participated in an ALS (Lou Gherig's Disease) benefit at Jacoby's with Jettison Red and The Muggs. Real Big Time Rock Star Uncle Kracker stopped by and delivered an autographed pimp hat from his boss, Kid Rock. Peter acted as auctioneer (Another thing holding up the record!) and got $400 for the spiffy item. It was a cool night and thanks to all you participated and attended.

We like to thank all the visitors who who've boosted us past 6000 hits! Stay tuned for some announcements about new additions to the Static family.

THE IMMORTAL WINOS OF SOUL: garageband.com is an international site where thousands of bands from all over the world compete in what basically ends up being a humongous Battle Of The Bands. garageband awards a recording contract to the highest rated group every 3 months or so. The site was created by Sir George Martin (legendary producer for the Beatles) and Talking Heads guitarist/keyboardist Jerry Harrison.

As a result of some very enthusiastic reviews from garageband.com members, in seven days "Put Another Log On The Fire" will be Track of the Day at garageband.com.

For 24 hours on 2001-03-22 (PST) Put Another Log On The Fire will be featured on garageband.com's Rock front page. Make sure you hit the link sometime from midnight (PST) Wednesday March 2st, 2001 - 11:59 PM (PST) March 22nd. The Winos, as always, appreciate your support!

This update 3/18/01

MOISTURE have caught an excellent break! Since relocating to the L.A. area a few years back, Bob Gentry has been rebuilding Moisture with other L.A. musicians. Well, it all paid off last weekend as they were the Feature Unsigned Band on the TV show for Farmclub.com. (FC.com is co-founded by uber-producer and Interscope label mogul Jimmy Iovine.) Their big break came after they uploaded songs to the FC.com web site and a staffer caught a gig and took their CD back to FCHQ. The show was taped a few weeks back for airing this past weekend and they're on their way! Congratulations, Bob and company!! Check out their performance here.

Of course, we'd be remiss to not remind you that we have their first CD, "Bastard" as well as the last tracks recorded in Detroit available for your purchasing pleasure. The stunning song "My Door" is available on the "Motor CD" and Bob's unique take on Iggy's "I Got Nothing" is on "POP O.D." (Natch.) Get them now so you can say you knew them before they sold out! ;)

FORGE: Speaking of Farmclub, Forge has a page there too. Why not give it a look and vote for our favorite Metal Heroes? They've finished recording and rough mixing several new tracks for their upcoming CD. (No title yet.) The tracks feature a broadening of the Forge sound which should be exciting. They've finished booking their West Coast tour (see Shows for the dates) and played the Hamtramck Blowout. Twitch and The Immortal Winos of Soul also played this year.

GREEBO: Were featured in a Camel ad in the Metro Times. They got half the facts and names wrong, thus putting the "No press is bad press as long as they spell the name right." maxim to the test.

RED SEPTEMBER: (See news items from the last couple of years and insert here.)

We're closing in on 5500 hits and the orders keep coming. Thanks for your support. We can't do it without YOU!

This update 3/8/01

THE IMMORTAL WINOS OF SOUL: Looks like the Glummer Twins (Chopper and Spooky) decided they can't live with or without each other and have reformed The Winos!! (Hey, we knew it would happen!) Check em out soon at a club near you. Buddha Full Plus with extra tracks available only from MP3.com.

SPAT!: Bruce and Deb have finished their latest release tentatively titled "Lucas "Axel" Manther
". Congrats to the new parents! (Guess you won't be sleeping EVER AGAIN!)

FORGE: Have been recording new material at the Tempermill and planning West Coast dates for the spring tour. Check the Shows page for the latest info.

"Wake Up Call" CoverRED SEPTEMBER: "Wake Up Call" has been remastered at Woodshed Studios and is being evaluated. They've decided to go with this cover (with minor tweaks) and should be on track for a release this Spring. (Haven't we heard this before? But, it may actually happen cuz things are actually getting done now. Thanks guys. </sarcasm>)

TWITCH: Our odd fellows are back in action. Rob and Tim's hands (broken and burned fingers respectively) are healing well enough to play shows and finish recording their second release. (Will they beat Red September to the stores? Stay tuned!)

This update 1/27/01

4500+ HITS!!! You guys are great! Thanks for visiting and ordering! We do it for you and we appreciate your support. Street Team program will be starting soon, so be sure to SIGN UP.

Well...it's the 21st Century and the roads in Michigan SUCK!!!! (We need flying cars so we don't bust a tie rod or something in all the potholes!)

FORGE: Their inexorable plan to conquer the galaxy keeps rolling with a slew of interviews at Compu-Geeks and Loud Tracks. They've been demoing material for the next CD and Steve Greene was quoted as saying, "It's nuts how much stuff is going on." Look for a West Coast swing in the Spring.

SPAT!: Word from Bruce and Deb is that their baby boy will be tagged Lucas Bruce Bryson when he shows up in early-February. (Deb can't wait!)
