We got our first blizzard of the season today and it SUCKS!!! Oh well, December in Michigan. What can you really expect?

RED SEPTEMBER: Peter "I'm working on it!" Schorn was interviewed by the Vancouver, B.C. web site Compu-Geeks. Read his pithy responses here.

FORGE: In a few days, the complete line of Forge merchandise (T-shirts, stickers, etc.) will be available right here on our order page. Nothing says "Christmas" to your loved ones more than some Forge swag!

4000+ HITS!!! You guys are great! Thanks for visiting and ordering! We do it for you and we appreciate your support. Street Team program will be starting soon, so be sure to SIGN UP.

The BIG 80's FLASHBACK BASH was a great success. A packed Lili's 21 was treated to performances by (in order) N2 Submission, Greebo, Immortal Winos of Soul, Forge, Twitch, Red September and Culture Bandits. The show was videotaped and we're in the process of pulling stills from the tape to give a complete report. We'll get that up ASAP.

GREEBO: The elves at D.D.F.S. have whipped up the new logo for our SynthPop duo. Here it is, just in time for you club kiddies to bootleg onto pacifiers and blotter paper.

Greebo Logo

RED SEPTEMBER: "Wake Up Call" has been official pushed back until early-2001. (Like you didn't see that coming. Stop calling us! We know you want the album. Hell, WE want the album!!!)

TWITCH: Work continues at Roscoe's Recording on their follow-up to "At Last". No date for completion yet. (As least their not MISSING deadlines like another band that we won't mention here.)

SPAT!: Speaking of works in progress, it's been determined that Bruce and Debbie will be having a boy. Congrats!

In less happy news, we'd like to express our condolences to the family of Trains Can't Stop (Bruce's old band) drummer Matt Ziske, who unexpectedly passed away recently. He also played on SPAT!'s rendition of "TV Eye" for "POP OD".

3500 HITS!!! Thanks a million!! :)

RED SEPTEMBER: CD still wrapping up (*gasp*shock*surprise*). Peter Schorn is sitting in with Brooke Ratliff for a couple of live dates. Frank Greenhalgh played on her current album, "Dragon Lady", and is the mainstay on her live band. Brooke sang backup vocals on "Living In Oblivion" and this is Pete's repayment of the favor.

In other news, Peter was elected to the Executive Board of the Motor City Music Foundation. He has hosted the Detroit Music Awards Pre-Show for the last five years.

GREEBO: Phil and Laura have dropped the "2000" and are getting new logos done by D.D.F.S. Until then, just cut the bottoms off your current stickers.

IMMORTAL WINOS OF SOUL: We got a note from Spooky Dave and Chopper that they were getting the band back together. No mention of any "Mission From God", but they'll be at this year's Big 80s Flashback Bash. Stay tuned.

THE GREAT RECORD COVER DEBATE: One of the last things done in the production of a record is the artwork. Since the cover may be a potential buyer's introduction to a band and it's music, it's important to choose an image that sums up (impossible as that may be) who a band is and what they want to say. Sometimes, it's as simple as black and white as Metallica and The Beatles showed...

Metallica or Smell The Glove? The Beatles - White Album

Sometimes it's detailed...

Classic Yes Asia - Aqua

Or it can be simple...

The Lemonheads - Car Button Cloth Fugazi - In On The Killtaker

And sometimes, just having girls on the cover is enough...

Britney Spears - They're Real Dammit! Christina "Neener Britney" Aguilera Dwarves - Blood, Guts & Pussy

So, as you can see, the cover can say a lot (or a little) about what's inside. (Remember in Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey when they went to Hell and said, "We were totally lied to by our heavy metal album covers."?)

Why the art lesson? Well, it's like this...Notorious perfectionists (read: pokey slackers) RED SEPTEMBER are shuffling across the finish line with their CD, "Wake Up Call". Two-and-a-freaking-half-years in the making and now they're stuck on the cover! The record rocks and those who've had advance listens are frothing to obtain their own copies, BUT, we're waiting for the art to get wrapped up.

The latest concept cover hit the e-mail box from D.D.F.S. and we here at Static have divided into two camps (kinda like "Survivor", but with guns and no million bucks!) about it. Some think it's really cool and eye-catching, while others think that it doesn't represent the blend of rock fury and social commentary captured in the (figurative) grooves.

If you'd like to help decide, cruise on over to the Records page and look at it and drop us a line. Samples of four songs are on the page for the record, too. If you'd like to get your mitts on the hottest record of Fall 1998 (original release date...jeez..) before the Sun explodes, be sure to vote. Thanks.

In other Red September news, their song "WWW" is in the qualifying round for a $250,000 contract from Garageband.com, a site started by Jerry Harrison and Sir George Martin to discover new talent. Good luck guys.

THREE THOUSAND HITS!!! GRACIAS!!!

This update 8/25/00

We're in an update frenzy lately. For starters, there are now more sound samples on almost all of the Record pages so you can now try before you buy. Orders are coming in now and we're just shy of 3000 hits. Thanks for your support! =)

FORGE: Aaron was interviewed by a the web site Unrestrained. Check out what he had to say about "Trials" and upcoming material.

It's a semi-quiet summer here at Static. We're enjoying the cooler than expected weather (take that Al Gore!) and otherwise kicking back. Some news though...

E-COMMERCE ARRIVES AT STATIC!!! The excessively overdue ability to purchase Static Records records(?) from the convenience of your home has been set-up, so start those credit cards going. In cooperation with CDStreet. you may now order thru a secure server, direct from the source. Mosey on over to the Order Page and go to it!

RED SEPTEMBER: The further signs of the Apocalypse continue as they've mastered "Wake Up Call" at the Woodshed with Tim Pak. (Who also mastered POP OD and Culture Bandits' "Noise Is For Heroes") Some tweaks need to be made before Quake 3-loser, oh wait, make that DEUS EX loser Pete signs off on it. He's also working on the art. They hope to be done by the first week of October with this long-awaited hunk of musical shrapnel. Even now, it's sounds great and pre-release reaction has been almost "frighteningly positive".

FORGE: Played CBGB'S to a room full of both invited and pseudo-incognito record weasels. Looking good for the boys.

SPAT!: Viva La Garagia was a great success (as all of who were there already know). Deb is planning on celebrating her baby's birth with a carton of smokes and a case of beer. (Just kidding. ;) ) It's due in February. Tentative names are Luka and Isabelle. (We are NOT making this up. Pray for a girl, lest some poor boy has to go thru life saying, "Hi, my name is..." And it won't be "Slim Shady")

ARCHIVED NEWS:

FORGE: They return to CBGB's on Tuesday, August 8. They were featured on the cover of Glass Eye Magazine (Toledo, OH). They've completed 9 new songs and their Street Team has grown to 200 members. (When are you guys gonna stop screwing around and do some WORK, huh?!?)

SPAT!: Congrats to Bruce & Debbie on their upcoming parenthood. (If it's a boy, for it to be a bottle baby would be child abuse.) SPAT's annual summer bash, Viva La Garaga is scheduled for July 17 at the Cadieux Cafe with fellow Static acts Red September, Greebo 2000, Culture Bandits and Twitch also playing.

RED SEPTEMBER: Finished recording their debut CD (2nd full lengther) "Wake Up Call" last month. Now it'll take....ooops, hang on...someone's at the door.............Hmm, it was the Devil asking if we could spare a coat. Wonder what that was about? Where were we? Oh yeah...Hopefully it won't take four more years to release. (Actually, they're planning on an Autumn release, but we've heard that before.).

Twitch: Finishing up at Roscoe's their second CD,

Greebo 2000: Will be appearing at Viva and Jacoby's and tattoo shops
near you. Phil and Laura got matching tattoos on the bases of their necks with the Chinese characters for "man" and "woman". (Hopefully that's what they REALLY say and aren't something like what they called Brad and Janet in Rocky Horror.)

Culture bandits: Are currently on semi-hiatus while Ken moves to
Toledo. Meanwhile the band members are keeping busy...Ken's cashing in on Kids From Krypton; Jay's going back to his roots with Brooklawn; Eric's destroying TVs near you with The Ruiners (also features ex-Moisture axeman,  Gary Chechak) and finally Derek teaming up with ex-wino Chopper Kevin for their new endeavor Lotsapappa! (Anybody seen Verge lately?)

Static plans on releasing "Head Full of Static", a compilation of their current acts and friends around the world. A return to it's first comp "Fist Full Of Chaos", it plans to include such regional faves as Chicago's Busker Soundcheck and Columbus' Watershed.

Dirk says that he's gonna be overhauling the web site adding some new cool features and surprises.

A DAMN GOOD NIGHT AT THE DETROIT MUSIC AWARDS FOR STATIC RECORDS!!!! Wha' happen? Sit down and we'll tell ya...

For starters: The pre-show was hosted by Red September leader (and recovering Quake-aholic) Peter Schorn for the fifth year in a row. In a weird turn of events, he received many complements for his deft and humorous presentation of 56 awards in just over an hour and no complaints! (Last year, the Blues community was up in arms over this joke: "The category is Best Blues Songwriter or otherwise known as The Guy Best Able To Arrange The Chords I-IV &V." Sheesh, you think that guys willing to go down to the crossroads to make a deal with the Devil would have a sense of humor.) High points were his riffs about WRIF DJ Arthur Pennhallow being a good choice to do the voice of Darth Vader and his ribbing of WDIV-TV news anchor Devin Scillian about how he would handle winning or losing in the Country category. (He lost.)

Co-hosting again this year was The Impaler, who also won for Best Industrial Artist and joined Peter on the Main Stage during the Awards to present the award for Best Record Label to STATIC RECORDS!! (Second straight year!) The whole Static family stormed the stage behind fearless leader Sue Summers. She dedicated the award to the recently departed Lili Karwowski, founder of Lili's 21 in happening Hamtramck.

Static's Metal Monsters Forge picked up a trophy for Best Metal Band during the pre-show and split (in a shocking tie) the Best Local Album with perennial DMA winner Jill Jack. The Static mob hit the stage again along with the leader of Forge's Toledo street team. Check out the pictures at Forge's web site.

Brian "Roscoe" White of Roscoe's Recording (the unofficial Static Studio) won for Best Producer. He was his typically self-effacing self when informed asking, "When's Pete coming back to finish his CD?" (Answer: 3 dates in May have been scheduled. Wow.)

Spotted in the crowd: Chopper from the Winos, Culture Bandit Ken, SPAT's Bruce and Deb (who was sporting some mighty fine décolletage!), Greebo 2000's Phil and Laura, Agent 009's Angie with her now-legal man-ho Knuckles and the lovely Mistress Donna from N2 Submission.

Other Static nominees were: SPAT! (Live Performance, Alternative/Indie Artist) & Deb Toscano (Rock/Pop Vocalist); Twitch (Alternative/Indie Artist); Ken (Culture Bandits/Kids From Krypton) Haas (Best Instrumentalist-Rock/Pop and Urban genres); Immortal Winos of Soul (Best Rock Artist); Roscoe's Recording (Best Recording Studio)

The Awards were presented on Friday, April 14th at the State Theatre in Detroit. Congratulations to all our nominees and winners!!!

Quick news update this time...

The Immortal Winos of Soul have called it quits and Kevin "Chopper" Peshkopia is getting married. Don't cry girls. (You were crying weren't you?)

Angie K. has returned to SPAT!, thus sparing the need to get new photos taken.

Agent 009 blew the roof off the Holbrook Cafe for the Hamtramck Blowout. Prominent promoter types were spotted in the crowd and were impressed. High point was the band starting the set without realizing that the Agent was changing her clothes! (Oooops!) She pulled on her hot dress and made it to the stage and basically made slaves of the audience. Hubba hubba!

In an unrelated(?) development, the Holbrook Cafe has reportedly closed.

Forge has racked up further great reviews and they'll be added here when the webmaster stops slacking. Those who can't wait for the word are encouraged to hit Forge's website now.
