 1999 News Stories

Forge has gotten a great review for Trials. in Sci-Fi Magazine (the print outlet for the Sci-Fi Channel) It's been added to the reviews section of that record's page. In other Forge news, the won the People's Choice contest on 89X (CIMX-88.7FM) 4 nights in a row beating tracks by Limp Bizkit, Marilyn Manson, Marcy Playground and P.O.D. Great job guys!

Verge has left the Immortal Winos of Soul to devote his full attention to his first love: Being insincere to women. The Winos are currently looking for a new bassist. Interested applicants should like R&B and soul music, be able to drink a lot and bring in at least 10 women to a show. Musical ability a plus. Check out the Winos web site to get in contact with them.

Final retail version of Quake 3: Arena released. Red September album delayed until 2000.

Agent 009 played their debut non-specialty show, Dec. 18 and blew the roof off Jacoby's. Look for more appearances in 2000 including a pending gig at the El Mocambo in Toronto.

Kids From Krypton are recording at Roscoe's. Culture Bandits are writing new material.

SPAT! is still looking for a drummer.

Greebo 2000 is hinting that a Skinhorse reunion may be in the offing for the new year. In other related news, Andre Royster has a new project called Turntable Lounge which will be hitting the Detroit clubs in 2000.

What's the deal with National Tech Team? This global computer support firm has just claimed John Briggs (Marooned) as an employee. He joins Phil, Gary and Andre (Skinhorse) and Peter (Red September) in addition to non-Static (but still cool) band The Ziffelz's Urb. (Diagram that sentence for big prizes!)

Moisture opened a show at the Roxy in LA for Milkweed. Who they? Nobody notable except that Andre from the first season of MTV's The Real World is in the band. Moisture opened shows in Detroit for crybaby's...er...Andre's old band Reigndance. (Red September also played a show with them but apparently Andre filled his diaper when they played the MTV theme riff to start their set. Pussy.)

Rob from Twitch is regrowing his hair after shaving his head to play Dr. Evil at the Big 80s Party. Pix here.

Forge held the CD Release Party for Trials last Saturday at The Shelter here in Detroit. Spotted in the crowd were Sue Static (really?), 89X DJ Kelly Brown (who also MCed), Karen Neal (Queen Bee, Inside Out), Dana Forester (60 Second Crush, Boy Orbisons), The Impaler, Mistress Donna and the irrepressible Crazee/Saint/Select-an-Adjective Mark Christopher of N2-Submission. Also spotted was the white guy with the dreadlocks from Workhorse Movement and that Quake 3 fiend from Red September. Forge rocked the hee-owss (boyeee!) and sold tons of CDs and swag. In other news, Trials is the #8 most added CD to Loud Rock radio this week! Call your local Lock Rock station and ask them to play "Adam 3" even more!

The Immortal Winos of Soul have signed a management deal with Richard (I played bass in the Romantics. Huh? The Romantics. "What I Like About You", "Talking In Your Sleep", matching red leather outfits...Remember now? OK.) Cole's firm Complete Management. He plans on promoting the Winos nationally and, if his fortunes continue as they have, will be swindled by the band in an ironic twist of fate.

We're still adding reviews to all of the fine Static releases but the latest one we've received was for POP O.D. (Better late than never!) Here's a clip:
"If you miss that frantic Pop punk energy of yore, you might want to seek out this tribute album from a host of Detroit garage bands." He gives it 2-1/2 stars and should be getting a ticking package real soon. (Hehehehehehe...j/k)

The Big 80s Flashback Bash was a BLAST! Super rocking sets by Forge and Twitch were the high points of an evening full of high points. Agent 009/Red September were also accorded mention in Real Detroit magazine. They said...er...they said....aw dammit! Can't find the clipping. We'll post the reviews when the PICTURES come back in.

Agent 009 is watching you. This former Vavoom front woman is performing at special appearances near you. (Pssst....ifthe rest of the band looks familiar, it's because it's Red September.)

Culture Bandits: Guitarist Ken Haas is sidelining in the Toledo rap-core act Kids from Krypton and drummer Eric is smashing tv sets at a venue nearest
you in trash/noise/chaos unit The Ruiners.

Red September mastermind, Peter Schorn, finally dragged himself away from playing Quake 3 long enough to mix up two more tracks for their long awaited/overdue CD "Wake Up Call". He says that they need "just a couple more days for final overdubs and mixing" to finish it up. Look for it early next year. Right?

Forge's Midwest tour starts in December

Here are the promised pix from the El Mo Show (hey, that rhymes!) with SPAT! Along for the ride were Peter from Red September (he's the mook with the Quake 3 jersey on), Sue "Because I own the label, that's why!" Static (Static shirt, natch) and Laura and Phil from Greebo 2000. Click on the pix to see the loveliness larger.

SPAT! are currently searching for a drummer with the amicable departure of Angie K. Good luck Angie,

The Immortal Winos of Soul will take their crack at the El Mo on Sat., Nov. 20 with big deal Toronto band, More Plastic.

Twitch are currently recording their second Cd at Roscoe's Recording (home also to SPAT!, Red September/Agent 009, Culture Bandits) and dressing up
as Dr.Evil. (You'll get it when the dang pictures are developed.)

Moisture frontman Bob Gentry has moved to LA and reformed the band. They
have recently opened for John Doe of X and poet Rod McKuen.

Greebo 2000 is Phil from Skinhorse and Laura from The Caroline's new electro-pop combo.

Marooned's Jjohn Briggs is taking a break from recording and producing. He
recently opened "Mantra" at 639 Beaubien in Detroit's Greektown. This unique boutique carries antiques and fine art collectables as well as being a flower shoppe. It was recently featured in Hour Magazine.

SPAT! invaded the legendary El Mocambo (Elvis Costello and Stevie Ray Vaughn taped shows there) in Toronto last weekend to do the other half of their show trade with The Spy, who were here a few weeks ago. SPAT! rocked a great set and when the digital camera pix are back from the Fotomat, they'll be here.

"Trials", the killer follow-up to "Decloaking" is now available in stores. Go buy one for yourself and one for a friend (who will be so grateful, he/she'll donate a kidney to you...even if you don't need it!) Play it loud enough to get the cops over (but don't be naked, stoned and playing the bongos, mmmkay?) Also, we'd appreciate it if you harassed your local radio stations to play "Adam 3", the first single.
