BULLCOCK - "Hog Nuts"

SNR 1026

Bullcock's seven song debut CD is Detroit rock n' roll from the swamps of New Jersey. The band has been described at "The Ramones meet The Stones in a drunken brawl at a Motorhead show". If you like your music loud and evil, check out this band. Heavy rock meets punk with a sense of humour. Satan approved.
  1. Hog Nuts
  2. Better Safe Than Sober
  3. Trailer Park Woman
  4. Heaven's For the Weather
  5. I Think That Stripper Really Likes Me
  6. Evil Twin
  7. If This Whiskey Was A River

Detroit rednecks (how does that work?) Bullcock belch up seven greasy nuggets of white trash wisdom and speedy booze rock (standout: “I Think That Stripper Really Likes Me”) that sound a whole lot like those dearly departed Motor City cowboy killers, Peter Torque. Torque II, maybe. So ya get cowboy hats, a fittingly phlegmy scumrock bellow, slippery punk n’ roll guitars, the occasional groovy girl-group backing vocals courtesy the excellently named Shantena, an even more occasional fat organ riff, songs about drugs and trailer park wimmen, a dude dressed up like the devil, and the general feeling that these fuckers like the Supersuckers and cheap American beer even more than you do. Oh, and in the interest of literalism, a cover shot of a pig’s swollen testicles. Yeehaw. -Sleazegrinder

Bullcock is from Detroit , and like most times, that means they rock deep into the upper numbers. The axe tones are thick and raw, swelling and ripping space into a million old-school pieces. Hog Nuts is a clever, funny better-than-damn good album. Bullcock is playing the redneck card with titles like "Better Safe Than Sober" "Trailer Park Woman" and "I Think That Stripper really Likes Me". The band sounds like Grand Funk and Alice Cooper's Spiders with Iggy's hard-on. Hog Nuts is a must have cd, that's all I'm saying. Super bad-ass. -H.Barry Zimmerman, SKRATCH MAGAZINE # 128

Bull Cock , Hog Nuts (myspace.com/bullcock). Great band name, title, cover photo (a set of pendulous boar testicles), song titles (“I Think That Stripper Really Likes Me," “Better Safe Than Sober”) and publishing company (Double Bacon Evil Burger Music). But the music? Trashy, dirty heavy-handed bar-rock—you rock, you bang chicks, you do all the drugs, you’re bad-asses, we got it. —Craig Gilbert, New Haven Advocate

This Bull Cock CD is great, it rocks! I think the Blue Collar Comedy tour bus got slammed from the sky by a flaming plane-load of Lynyrd Skynyrd and David Allen Coe on the hard rock vista pull-off from Route 66. When I listen to the CD and look at pictures in the booklet I distinctly hear a calm voiceover, "We've secretly replaced these people's coffee with Jack Daniels." -- Tom "Tearaway" Schulte http://www.outsight.mu
